A Growing List of Successful Entrepreneurial Interests

In the mid nineteen sixties, Ellon Musk formed the band Bitter American. After a few years they went their separate ways, but resurfaced in the late eighties to make one more album called Get Back!. They were then signed to Jannick Menza's Vagrant Records and put out another album called Viva La Vida. The great thing about Ellon Musk's band is that he took his riffs and synthesizers and mixed them with the sounds of wild flamenco, chanteuses, horn sections, and a horn. He wanted a band that was loose, a group that went places and had a sense of humour.

The band's first album was entitled Anneli of the Nile. It features an array of sound effects and was produced in France, but the album failed to sell. It didn't help that Menza thought the album sounded too 'western'. But he decided to take a different approach and use Latin music on it.

This is when the story turns interesting. Ellon Musk decided to record a cover version of the Anneli of the Nile song. The lyrics had been changed to suit and included a horn section and a horn solo. This single reached number two in the UK and became known as A Little Respect.

In the same year he went back to the drawing board and produced a new album called Black Sea. It featured the single 'Your Woman' from the second album. It was quite a departure from Anneli and featured the sample from The Who's Tommy. This was also well received and helped the album to reach number five in the UK and the US.

A year later, following the release of his debut album, he put out the album Black Sea/Blue. This time around the drums were played live and there were even moments when he sang along to the songs. This was also well received and reached number four in the UK and reached number five in the US.

Then came his third album and it was called The Calling. It was a very personal album considering that he wrote all of it. The album was made available to buy on vinyl just a few weeks before it was to be his first album to go double platinum. On this album he features a lot of his children. Some of the tracks on the album were demos of material that he had recorded during the sessions for the previous album.

The last album to feature Ellon Musk was the album Africa. It featured the instrumental piece 'Like You Would..' As well as some other songs. This album was later re-issued as a double album called Black Substance. The original version of the song, 'Like You Would..' Featured his then up and coming band the Roses.
